What Kasper Schmeichel told his Celtic teammates after Scottish Cup final error vs Aberdeen

Yesterday’s Scottish Cup final between Celtic and Aberdeen won’t live long in the memory of football purists.

Celtic lost to Aberdeen on penalties after a drab 1-1 draw was played out after 120 minutes of football inside Hampden.

With the Scottish Cup now resting in the Pittodrie trophy cabinet, Celtic will look back on this as a huge missed opportunity.

However, Aberdeen never offered anything in an attacking sense and Celtic were coasting towards a treble until a massive error by Kasper Schmeichel allowed The Dons a way back into the game.

And at full time, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers shared what his normally reliable goalkeeper told his teammates in the Hampden dressing room.

Brendan Rodgers shares Kasper Schmeichel’s Scottish Cup apology to Celtic teammates

Rodgers looked despondent in the post-match press conference and whilst the Celtic boss admitted he wasn’t angry with the outcome, he has shared how gutted Schmeichel felt.

Rodgers told the post-match press conference, “Yeah, he’s obviously apologetic to his teammates but he’s been outstanding for us all season.

“It was one of those moments in the game later on that can happen.

“We still had one or two other chances that we could have scored from but, yeah, it was just unfortunate at that time of the game.”

Kasper Schmeichel’s excellent season as Celtic win another double

The Scottish Cup defeat, whilst disappointing, should not gloss over the fact that Celtic have had another successful season.

Winning the fourth league title in a row and a League Cup is a tremendous return in a season where Champions League progression was also made.

And Kasper Schmeichel has played a huge part in Celtic’s domestic and European successes this season.

Whilst this defeat will sting for the summer, the memories of this season won’t be defined by the Scottish Cup final defeat.
