What a weekend it has been for Celtic teenager Callum Osmand.
Let’s be honest here, if Brendan Rodgers was still in charge, Osmand still wouldn’t have made his professional debut because he wouldn’t have even been selected for the two matchday squads this week – Falkirk and Rangers.
But on Sunday, as Celtic booted Rangers out of the League Cup, Osmand came off the bench to seal an extra-time win for Martin O’Neill’s side.
Yes, it’s understandable that O’Neill is under the spotlight on his Celtic return, but don’t forget about the man beside him, Shaun Maloney, because he is playing an underrated part.

What Shaun Maloney was shouting just before Callum Osmand’s goal for Celtic
There was an infectious nature to O’Neill’s energy and enthusiasm on the touchline, but don’t forget about Maloney.
The former winger was pretty vocal on the touchline, and just before Osmand scored his goal in extra time, he was screaming for Celtic, but most importantly, James Forrest, to push up the pitch.
“Come on, Jamsey,” shouted Maloney from the touchline as Rangers took a throw-in just inside their own half.
“Get up the pitch,” shouted Maloney at the Celtic players and Forrest, as the ball was forced forward.
That’s when Forrest gets up the pitch, in behind Rangers’ defence, and Reo Hatate’s ball nearly puts him through on goal.
The ball was intercepted by the Rangers defender, and then Celtic won back the loose ball, which Forrest played a part in, the ball was eventually played to Callum McGregor, who played it out to Kieran Tierney, and the rest is history.
Martin O’Neill and Maloney, the perfect partnership
When Brendan Rodgers resigned from his Celtic post last week, it was all doom and gloom at Parkhead, or it seemed to be.
But whilst Dermot Desmond gets verbally battered for how he is running the club, the call to put together this partnership has to be applauded.
For the short term, to bring some life back into Celtic and put them back on track, they are proving to be the perfect partnership.
