Celtic B team hoped to follow up Sunday’s Premier Sports Cup Final victory with one of their own against Rangers last night.

Unfortunately, in the Glasgow Cup Final, Stephen McManus‘ youngsters could not quite follow in the senior squad’s footsteps as they succumbed to a late goal in a 3-2 defeat.

It was a harsh way to lose for the kids at the City Stadium having battled back twice against their rivals to level proceedings.

Daniel Cummings equalised after Paul Nsio had given Gers the lead.

It would then take a Samuel Isiguzo strike to level for Celts having watched Cole McKinnon give Rangers the lead for a second time earlier in the evening.

As it looked to be heading into extra-time, Zak Lovelace popped up with four minutes to play with a slick finish.

It was ultimately a learning experience for the B team and 67 Hail Hail took a look at some key talking points after the whistle.

Celtic B team character building

The young Bhoys may have tasted defeat in what was one of their biggest games of the season, but that can only help strengthen their resolve as professionals.

No-one likes suffering losses, but the effort they put in showed heart and the desire to fight back twice from going behind showed resilience they can count on in future.

To win well you must learn to lose.

Daniel Cummings hype is real

Celtic’s young striker has been the standout for the B team this season and it’s no wonder Cummings has plenty of transfer interest.

Numerous English clubs are tracking Cummings including the likes of Brentford and Sunderland but European teams are also sniffing about.

RB Salzburg and Bologna have been linked with Cummings but the attacker has not allowed the speculation to get to him. If anything he is thriving.

Brendan Rodgers spoke on Cumming’s first-team pathway recently and if the 18-year-old keeps up his scoring record, he’ll be in with a shot.

Coping with Rangers’ first-team stars

The Light Blues welcomed back Oscar Cortes from injury as well as Rabbi Matondo in the cup final in a move which arguably gave them the advantage.

Overall, though, Celts kept them relatively quiet on a night where it was the less experienced players who shone.

Fingers crossed going forward that will stand the young Celts in good stead for coming up against first-team players more often…
