2 former Celtic players team up at Bundesliga side VFL Bochum
Former Celtic right-back Saidy Janko has completed a move to German Bundesliga side VFL Bochum.
Having only started his professional career in 2014, shortly after joining the Manchester United academy, the 26-year-old now finds himself at his 11th club.
Janko has spent time at sides from across Europe, in countries such as Scotland, England, France, Portugal, Switzerland, Spain and now Germany.
The Gambian internationalist arrived at Parkhead during the early stages of his career under former manager Ronny Deila.
During his first season in Glasgow, the right-back played just 12 times due to him picking up a serious knee injury towards the back end of 2015.
After the arrival of former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, Janko was handed another opportunity to impress and kick-start his Celtic career.
The full-back featured in seven games at the beginning of the season, including four Champions League qualifiers, as the Hoops secured a place in the group stages of the competition.
However, during that run to the Champions League, Janko was involved in one of the biggest defensive mistakes Celtic supporters will have seen after colliding with goalkeeper Craig Gordon.
Of course, this resulted in the shot-stopper dropping the ball to be tapped home and set up an extremely nervy finish to the second-leg tie against Hapoel Beer Sheva.
That night was the final time that Janko would play under Rodgers, as he was swiftly moved on loan to English side Barnsley before being sold to Saint-Etienne the following year.
Another familiar face to Celtic fans amongst the Bochum squad.
Funnily enough, during that summer, Janko was replaced by West Brom full-back Cristian Gamboa, with whom he will now be joining up as teammates in Germany at Bochum.
The Costa-Rican, who played 31 times during his three years at Celtic, helped his current side remain in the top flight, and scored one goal – an incredible strike against European giants Bayern Munich.
After a strong showing in the Bundesliga last season, the German side will now be heading into the 2022/23 campaign with two former Celtic right-backs amongst the squad.
It certainly seems that both players have kicked on from their disappointing days at Celtic, and hopefully, they are to continue showing that next season!
