Odin Thiago Holm doesn’t have many competitive minutes under his belt at Celtic but he is already making a positive impression on manager Brendan Rodgers.
Holm came on for the final six minutes at home to Ross County last weekend and managed 20 minutes off the bench away to Aberdeen on Sunday.
The midfielder is already catching the eye with some nice moments and obvious ability on the ball, something that hasn’t been lost by either Celtic supporters or Rodgers. And the Bhoys boss was quick to dish out the praise after the 3-1 win over the Dons.
He said [Irish News]: “He is a good player, he is going to really show his talent as he goes through his time at Celtic. He is a fantastic footballer. He has got an edge, he can see a pass, can move well.”
Rodgers also enjoyed the cameo from new winger Hyunjun Yang this afternoon. The South Korean showed nice skill and ambition with a driving run at the Aberdeen defence, before cutting back for Matt O’Riley to fire in the team’s third goal of the day.
The Celtic manager continued: “Yang came into the game and sets up the third goal with a great bit of skill. So I am really pleased for all the boys who came into the game and contributed.
“Overall it was a very good win, some spells of good football and in those moments of adversity we stayed strong. It will be great for the spirit because we had to come through tough moments.”
The key for both Holm and Yang will be continuing to impress in training and earning themselves a spot on the matchday squad lists. Minutes will naturally follow from that given the exertions starters in their positions give.
If they continue to impress with off-the-bench appearances, starts won’t be far away – especially when the schedule starts to get busier around European matches and cup rounds.
The early signs are positive but there’s a long way to go.
