A defiant Ange Postecoglou brilliantly hit back at his media critics after Sunday’s Scottish League Cup final win for Celtic over Hibernian.
Postecoglou hasn’t had an easy ride from some pundits and journalists since arriving in Glasgow. There have been kind reviews from some, of course, but others have certainly been chipping away at his credibility since first being mooted for the job.
However, he’s united the team with supporters and already delivered silverware. Now he’s well placed to have Celtic push on and challenge for more trophies this season.
Beaming after yesterday’s cup win, Postecoglou told assembled media, as quoted by The Scottish Daily Mail [20/12 print edition, page 72]: “Without sounding arrogant, I’ve never doubted myself or wavered in my own self-belief.”
“All of you were probably running a book on how long I’d last. A few of you probably had December, but that’s now out the window. It didn’t affect me and that’s not arrogance. I’m just really passionate about what I do.”
Ouch. That’s quite the put-down and it may make a few of the press-gang think twice about some of their comments over the next couple of months.

Anyone making any bold predictions about Postecoglou and the direction of his Celtic project might just find it comes back to bite them. Write this man off at your peril.
For the rest of us, we can enjoy this brief moment of satisfaction before Celtic get back to hard work ahead of Wednesday night’s fixture away to St Mirren.
It doesn’t get any easier for the manager and his team, but they’re showing they are up for the fight on and off the pitch.
In other news, Chris Sutton makes the ultimate Celtic comparison; it doesn’t get better.
