Chris Sutton makes the ultimate Celtic comparison; it doesn't get better
Chris Sutton has described the finishes of Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi yesterday as “Larsson like”, in reference to his legendary striker partner Henrik.
Larrson is one of the greatest players to ever play for Celtic. Certainly, for a couple of generations of supporters, he is the best player they’ve ever seen pull on the Hoops. I’m in that bracket. So for Sutton to dish out this praise, which he doesn’t do lightly, is quite the thing indeed.
The pundit said on social media: “Ange Postecoglou has done an incredible job in a few months . Fair play to him and this gutsy Celtic team. Hibs gave it a real go second half. Kyogo incredible finishes Larsson like.”
This will be sacrilege to some. Larsson is a deity, after all. However, you can see Sutton’s point. There was definitely and style and impressiveness from Kyogo that would remind you of the great man yesterday.
The genius of Larsson is that he did that on a consistent basis over a series of years. So it goes without saying that there’s a long way to go for Kyogo to reach those heights.
Nonetheless, it is absolutely exciting to see a player have the ruthlessness of Kyogo. And the knack of scoring in big moments and huge games.
Kyogo actually has missed some chances since arriving in Scotland. However, in the huge moments, such as against Ferencvaros and against Hibs, he’s never wavered. He is, simply put, an icon.
And that’s exactly what Larsson was too. So hopefully the Japanese forward can continue this momentum and add many more goals to his tally of 16 so far.
Bring it on!
