As discussed this morning, Celtic and Adidas have released the latest Bhoys merchandise; a revival of the popular mid-00s Teamgeist designs.

Utilising light greens and whites on a striking black template, the club are offering hoodies, shirts and tracksuit tops in the Teamgeist style. It looks extremely good.

No wonder then, that a lot of fans have already snapped up the designs, and have reacted online to the newest Celtic and Adidas releases.

Unveiled in collaboration with Japanese football culture magazine Shukyu, it’s probably Celtic’s first real conscious attempt to tap into football fashion in recent years.

Eight other clubs, Real Madrid, Juventus, Manchester United, Ajax, FC Bayern, Arsenal, Flamengo and Boca Juniors, released their own version of the Teamgeist collection with Adidas, alongside Celtic.

Teamgeist was popularised in the mid-00s. Teams including France, Germany and Argentina wore the Adidas design in the 2006 World Cup. It was perhaps immortalised by Zinedine Zidane’s displays for France, from the utterly sublime to the ridiculous.

In terms of clubs, AC Milan perhaps wore it best, in a dominant period for the Italian club.

Bringing it back to the 2000s is a bit of a surprise in itself. Over recent years, Adidas had looked at 90s designs for inspiration. Arsenal kits in the last couple of seasons have given nods to famous late 20th Century aesthetics.

“Bangin”, Tiger King references; Celtic and Adidas have caught imagination of supporters

The response on social media was swift and largely positive. For most, it brought back a wave of nostalgia, especially those who grew up in the 2000s.

Clearly, it’s a popular design. Adidas and Celtic may be bringing out a lot of merchandise – something that won’t be universally popular – but supporters certainly have choice.

Here are some of the best responses on Twitter to the newest Adidas and Celtic release:
