Former Celtic midfielder and assistant manager John Collins has criticised the decision to start Diego Laxalt against Rangers at Ibrox yesterday.
Laxalt was something of a surprise inclusion instead of Greg Taylor, who had played the previous week against Livingston.
Collins didn’t hold back when speaking on BBC Sportsound (18:55) this evening.
He was deeply unimpressed with the effort levels of the AC Milan loanee, telling the panel: “Laxalt has been a shocking signing. How he played yesterday I’ll never know.
“His recovery runs, his effort at tackles, his blocks, he was a weakness that Rangers exploited on the right-hand side as soon as they saw the teamsheet.
“Watch the first goal. Watch the recovery run of [David] Turnbull and Laxalt. The referee runs past Turnbull, Laxalt’s jogging back, that’s why Celtic have had the season they’ve had.”
Diego Laxalt shouldn’t play for Celtic again
Like Collins, I was appalled with Laxalt’s contribution yesterday. With just a handful of meaningless games left between now and the end of the season, I’d be happy not to see him wear the Hoops again.
He can sit on the Milan bench, he can go somewhere else, I don’t really care.

Greg Taylor may not be a world-beater, but he’s hungry and wants to improve at Celtic. That’s the bare minimum we should expect.
This summer, Celtic really need to invest in both the left-back and right-back slots. They’ve cost us too many times this season.
