Former Celtic midfielder Aaron Mooy has shared a first look at his new life.

The Australian retired from football at the age of 32 last month, with Celtic his final ever club.

Mooy had just enjoyed a terrific season in green-and-white, and would have been a big player this coming campaign, but he decided to hang up his boots.

At the time his wife Nicola shared an emotional post, pointing out that the life of a footballer isn’t as amazing as some like to portray.

The caption concluded: “The reality of being a footballer isn’t all sunshine but you are ours. You have made me so incredibly proud. Let’s enjoy life now, no strings baby.”

Now it seems like Mooy is very much enjoying his post-playing life. He took to Instagram on Thursday morning to share a short video of him juggling a football on a beach, while sipping a beer. (Instagram)

It’s not totally clear where Mooy is. He could be anywhere right now, in more than one way. He no longer needs to be in pre-season training like the past 15 summers.

His former team-mates Cameron Carter-Vickers, Mikey Johnston, Ben Siegrist (Celtic) and Marco Tilio (Australia) have all liked the image at the time of writing.

Another Socceroo connection, goalkeeper Mat Ryan, cheekily pondered: “Comeback trail?”

Mooy has a great time ahead of him having played his career. But you do wonder if he will miss the action once Celtic start playing in big fixtures.

Will he feel he needs to get back in to the game in some capacity in the future? He’ll be welcome back at Celtic Park any day, even just to do the half-time draw.
