Celtic stars past and present have been reacting to the news of Aaron Mooy retiring.
The Australian’s playing career is over, with the club announcing his intention to retire “with immediate effect” early on Friday. (Celtic)
Mooy was a much liked figure in the Celtic dressing room despite only spending 12 months at the club.
His shy persona and on-pitch performances earned him affection with the players and fanbase.
Now, some of his team-mates have had things to say following the announcement.
Fittingly, most of the reaction has been low on words, much like Mooy’s post-match interviews.
Reo Hatate and Kyogo Furuhashi both shared the Celtic ‘Thank you Aaron’ graphic with Kyogo adding three crying emojis.
Ben Siegrist and former Hoops man Josip Juranovic both described Mooy as a “legend” in their posts.
Greg Taylor wrote: “Congratulations and good luck mate.” Liel Abada said: “Thank you legend and all the best bro.”
Sead Haksabanovic had the lengthiest player tribute, with the Montenegrin writing: “Enjoy your retirement and congrats on a great career bro. Learned a lot from you. Hopefully see you soon.”

Included is a lengthy post from his wife Nicola, giving an interesting perspective.
She wrote: “The years of grind and sacrifices, the everyday pain and regimented lifestyle, the heartaches from relegation, the euphoria from promotion, the pure elation from scoring, the joy from assists, the controlled diets, the feeling you can’t breathe from running so hard, the missing out on milestones in our babies lives, playing in two World Cups, winning the treble – all now memories.
“The reality of being a footballer isn’t all sunshine but you are ours. You have made me so incredibly proud. Let’s enjoy life now, no strings baby.”
Mooy has earned some family time and rest.
