Aberdeen boss Stephen Glass believes rumours around a move for Calvin Ramsay have emerged because his side are facing Celtic tomorrow.
Yes, really.
Ramsay, a promising young right-back who’s shone for Aberdeen this season, was linked with a move to Manchester United this week [Sun]. It’s high praise for the 18-year-old, who has an outstanding 6 assists this season [Transfermarkt].
Yet, according to Stephen Glass, the Calvin Ramsay story has emerged because Aberdeen are playing Celtic. The Dons boss said [FourFourTwo]:
“I’m aware of stories coming out. It used to happen as long ago as when I was playing that these stories started appearing the weekend we were playing Celtic or Rangers. There’s nothing new there.
“I’m sure Calvin’s attracting interest from a lot of clubs – that doesn’t surprise me in the slightest, but there’s nothing to report on that.
“He’s been brilliant since he came in. Calvin’s ability and his professionalism will dictate where he ends up and how good a career he has. The signs are brilliant so far. It’s up to him to keep performing and concentrating and blocking out all the stories that come out.”
We’re not sure where Aberdeen boss is getting Calvin Ramsay and Celtic connection from
Right then.
Couple of problems with this, namely that the bulk of Aberdeen transfer rumours were in the summer. Speculation over Lewis Ferguson dominated headlines during pre-season, with Watford’s advances being rebuffed [Watford Observer].
Since then, it’d be hard to argue there’s been much in the way of transfer stories emanating from Pittodrie. So, we’re not sure what Stephen Glass is trying to get at here.

Is there a conspiracy to undermine Aberdeen, from the same papers that have run columns doubting the Celtic manager [Sun]?
Maybe there’s a secret agreement between Celtic, Manchester United and News International to unsettle Calvin Ramsay before he faces the Bhoys tomorrow.
Or, more realistically, it’s utter nonsense. Good young players are going to be linked to top clubs, whether they play for Aberdeen or whoever else.
It truly sounds like the Aberdeen boss, a hitherto likeable character, is getting his excuses lined up in case a result doesn’t go his way tomorrow.
This is just odd, odd stuff.
