Aberdeen teach the Celtic board a lesson in fan engagement for the second time this season

The Celtic board are currently at war with the fans.

The Parkhead executives have been targeted as an area of change that is required at the club and the Celtic Fans Collective is looking to bring that.

As fans vent their frustration at lack of transfer activity and the direction the club is moving in under the Celtic board, the Hoops top brass appeared to hit back at them last week.

Celtic banned the entire Green Brigade for an alleged incident that happened within the stadium concourse with police and stewards.

And as the unrest continues, Aberdeen have just schooled the Celtic board on how fans should be treated for the second time this season.

Aberdeen ticket exchange scheme is something Celtic should learn from

First lesson, Celtic fans have long vented frustration at not being able to get tickets for home games even though there appears to be hundreds of seats sitting empty at Parkhead each week.

Aberdeen launched a ticket exchange scheme last season where fans can purchase season ticket holders’ seats which then give money back to fans that hold said seat.

Celtic fans have been crying out for this for years, but it has fallen on deaf ears, which is strange.

Celtic would generate more revenue from a seat that they already have sold, so quite why the club are not pursuing this is very odd indeed.

And the second lesson Aberdeen have taught the Celtic board is that the Pittodrie club have just announced that they have been granted a licence to serve alcohol in a bid to improve the matchday experience for fans.

In a statement on the Aberdeen FC website, the club said, “Aberdeen can confirm that our upcoming home fixture in the William Hill Premiership against Kilmarnock on Sunday 14 December (kick-off 3:00pm) has been granted a licence by Aberdeen City Council for the sale of alcohol at this match.

“The Richard Donald Stand Lower concourse area at Pittodrie will offer alcohol for purchase before kick-off at the game. This will only be available to home fans, and these sales will be managed in full accordance with licensing laws, with appropriate security and stewarding in place.

“The aim of the initiative is to gather insight into how a carefully managed approach to alcohol sales can support a positive and safe matchday experience for supporters, as part of wider work taking place across Scottish football to improve fan engagement and enhance the overall stadium environment.

“Supporters are reminded that alcohol may only be consumed within clearly designated areas and not in sight of the pitch, and all sales will take place in clearly defined, monitored areas of the stadium. Matchday operations, stewarding and safety planning will remain consistent with our usual high standards.

“We hope this will add to the enjoyment of the matchday experience for supporters and would like to pass on our thanks to fans for their continued support and cooperation. We’ll provide further information closer to the match.”
