There’s no question Celtic fans are frustrated at the moment.
In fact, the majority are more angry than frustrated at the Celtic board for taking an age to get the players in that Brendan Rodgers so desperately needs.
Celtic’s last signing was on July 19 with the arrival of Shin Yamada, so we are approaching one full month without a new recruit.
Rodgers is hopeful the work will be done before the September 1 deadline, and also hopes at least one new body is through the door before the Kairat Almaty first leg on August 20.
But how hopeful is Rodgers himself about extending his contract at Parkhead?
Celtic fans think there is ‘no way’ Rodgers signs new deal
Well, nobody will really know what’s going on inside the Celtic manager’s head at the moment with regards to his future in Glasgow.
But journalist and The Go Radio Football Show pundit Mark Guidi has heard from most Celtic fans that they have very little confidence in Rodgers signing a new deal.
Rodgers sees his contract expire next summer, and Guidi reports that Celtic fans fear the worst.
Speaking on Thursday, he said: “There’s just something that looks as though, from the outside right now, there’s something going on internally at Celtic Park that has a lot of Celtic supporters worried.
“And the fear just now is that there’s absolutely no way Brendan Rodgers is going to extend his contract, that’s what most Celtic supporters are saying just now.”
Rodgers wants to ‘build and grow’ Celtic
A couple of weeks ago, Rodgers stressed that he loves being the Celtic boss if the aim is to build and develop the squad continually.
That hasn’t exactly happened this summer yet because Celtic are clearly weaker than at the end of last season.
So it can be argued that Rodgers’ future depends on whether or not the Hoops hierarchy can deliver the goods before the transfer window shuts.
He said: “There’s no further (contract) update no, and for the sake of honesty and clarity I can tell you exactly where we’re at.
“So I said when I came here first that I’d do three years minimum. People had me out the door at the end of last season or going various places.
“I said then and I’ll say it now – there’s nowhere to go. I love being here. I’ve done two years. I’ve got one more year to go.
“Dermot (Desmond) and Michael (Nicholson) and I had a conversation over the summer on where we were at and where it sits with myself and everything else and I said I’m very happy here.
“There’s conditions we want in to be able to improve and be better because I’m not the type of manager that’s good at maintaining anything.
“If it’s just something to maintain, I’m not the manager for Celtic. It’ll be someone else. But to build and grow and develop and push, then of course I love being at Celtic.
