Celtic fans are still waiting for the club to conduct key business in the transfer market.
There’s just over two weeks of the window left and the Hoops are in desperate need of two wingers and possibly another quality striker.
Brendan Rodgers sounded frustrated a couple of weeks ago, but the Celtic manager appears to have changed his tune and is confident deals will be completed.
Amid the noise, Luke McCowan admits all he and his teammates can do is ignore the clamour for new signings and just focus on themselves, something he branded ‘selfish’.
McCowan believes in current Celtic squad amid transfer noise
And the midfielder thinks that even if Celtic don’t manage to sign the players necessary before the September 1 deadline, the squad is good enough to compete this season.
Speaking to the press on Thursday, McCowan said: “It is probably a selfish answer, but you’re probably just focusing on yourself. Whatever goes on outside the training pitch is the club’s business.
“We know with this squad of players that we’re pushing, and we’re loving it in training. We’re going into games so confident, so it’s a selfish one where we’re focusing on ourselves.
“If new teammates show up, so be it, and if they don’t, we know we have enough quality to push on.”
McCowan was a late signing last summer
The former Dundee star knows what it’s like to be a player on the move very late in the transfer window.
In fact, he was Celtic’s final signing of the 2024 summer window after Arne Engels and Auston Trusty had joined earlier in the day.
McCowan joined his boyhood club for £1m from Dundee, and it’s safe to say you’d have no chance wiping the smile off his face that night.
Almost one year on, McCowan has grown as a player, and many fans think he now deserves more starting opportunities this campaign.
