Celtic failed to add a striker to replace Kyogo Furuhashi on transfer deadline day.

Kyogo left the Bhoys for Rennes in a £10m deal that saw Celtic left with just Adam Idah as their first-choice striker.

The Celtic first-team has been depleted heading into the title run-in after Brendan Rodgers let seven players leave the Hoops in the January transfer window.

The Celtic manager was very clear that replacing Kyogo was a priority and it seemed that David Strelec was on the Bhoys’ radar.

However, a move failed to materialise and Celtic’s transfer deadline day ended with just Jeffrey Schlupp coming to Paradise on a loan deal until the end of the season.

David Strelec’s agent pipes up about Celtic’s deadline day interest

Now that the dust has settled, Strelec’s agent, Slovakian legend, Robert Vittek has opened up on Celtic’s interest in the young striker and initially hinted toward what he valued his client at.

Vittek told Sport 24, “Sporar already transferred for seven million [euros] when we were in the Europa League, and he was not at a bad age either.

“David has a great age, one of the best. He has been in good form throughout the autumn, including at the international level, which is very important.

“We, as a club, also want to benefit from this, break the ice and get closer to neighbouring countries that demand such amounts for players.”

Celtic learn how much David Strelec will cost

With Celtic rumoured to have been interested in a transfer deadline day move the agent continued on Sport 24 and gave a ballpark figure of what he would expect Slovan Bratislava to get for their star striker.

Vittek said, “We didn’t say the exact number of how much we would like for him. However, the amount must be around eight to ten million euros.

“David is a very interesting item in the national team, the Champions League has also added value to him.”

Strelec has 193 career appearances and has scored 60 goals and created 27. However, for Bratislava, the 23-year-old has netted just 47 times in 148 outings for the Slovakian champions.

With 28 caps for the Slovakian national team, Strelec clearly has something about him and with three years left on his current deal the ball in firmly in Slovan Bratislava’s court.
