Kris Boyd makes ‘bold’ Celtic transfer claim

With Celtic overseeing more exits than players coming in, Kris Boyd says Celtic have already made a bold move in the transfer window.

Boyd said, “So the striker role, we’ve spoken about it loads of times, I think losing Kyogo for Celtic in terms of his age, there was a lot of pluses to the deal but when you’ve got a striker that’s scoring goals on a regular basis in big games as well, for me unless you’ve got someone to come in, it was a bit of a bold move for from Celtic.

Barry Ferguson & Alan Hutton worried about Celtic’s ‘scary’ transfer updates

Both former Rangers men are sounding a wee bit panicked as Celtic’s transfer updates start to become more regular.

Ferguson said of Celtic’s link with Danny Ings, “I think that would be a shrewd bit of business. As I said, I still think there’s a lot of football left in him.

“He’s not getting much game time at West Ham at this moment in time. They’ve obviously signed Ferguson from Brighton. So, that’s him down the pecking order.

“So, I wouldn’t be surprised if he makes that move to Celtic.”

Hutton on Celtic’s ‘scary’ signing of Jeffrey Schlupp, “Even I have played against him,” said Hutton. “That’s why I was asking you earlier what age he was. But only 32, with so much experience and to add that quality to the squad is a little bit scary.

“He can fill in a number of positions. Left-back, he can play further forward. I know Michael (Stewart) has just spoken about Maeda, Jota and all these kind of guys, so it’s probably not for there, at this moment in time.”

Chris Sutton tells Celtic they still have ‘more work to do’

The Hoops hero was speaking about Celtic’s transfer business when he said Brendan Rodgers still needs to do more work to strengthen the Parkhead side before the 11pm deadline.

Sutton said, “Celtic still have work to do in this window,” said Sutton. “Arguably, they could finish this window, in terms of their squad depth, compared to when they started it and that really would be unacceptable.

“When you think about all the Champions League money they have got this season. I suspect, well, I know Celtic will be making a move for a centre-forward, left-back and maybe another wide player. But they need to get bodies in tonight.

On what deals he would like to see: “In terms of Celtic, definitely get a striker in to replace Kyogo Furuhashi, who was tremendous for them.”

Slovan Bratislava CEO Ivan Kmotrík boots out a bid of just over £4m from Middlesbrough and tells Celtic it will take a Slovakian transfer record bid to land the 23-year-old.

“The amount offered would have to be radically high for us to consider his transfer. It has to be an offer that can’t be refused. And we are very far from that.”

“If Dávid leaves,” Kmotrik Jr continues, “it will definitely be a Slovak record. However, in the situation we are in today, I don’t see it realistic that he would leave in the winter transfer period.

“The interest in Strelec is growing, the offers are coming in. And big transfers are always usually made in the summer.

Celtic fans will be hoping Brendan Rodgers will be adding a new frontman before the 11pm deadline but it seems that that may not happen according to Hoops hero, Pat Bonner.

Speaking after Celtic’s win over Motherwell, Bonner said, “I watch Johnny Kenny for Shamrock Rovers, a different level, of course,” said Bonner. “But nice and sharp. Full of confidence also because he scored a lot of goals in the Conference League.

“Could he be the one if they don’t (sign a striker)? They make a rational decision and say, ‘listen, we are in a good position where we can maybe wait until the summer to bring somebody in because we have Adam (Idah). We have Maeda who can play through the middle. We have Johnny Kenny who may show us that he has something’.
