Alan Brazil can’t get over one thing Wilfried Nancy said after Celtic defeat vs Dundee United

It felt like it couldn’t get any worse for Celtic after the Premier Sports Cup final.

But after a promising first half against Dundee United, Wilfried Nancy’s men collapsed to a fourth straight defeat.

It’s a barely believable situation, where the Celts seemingly can’t buy a win as they look to close the gap on league leaders Hearts.

Celtic fans already want Nancy sacked, unconvinced by the team’s performances in his 3-4-3 system AND his awkward media handling.

And Hoops-daft Alan Brazil can’t get over one of Nancy’s comments after the game at Tannadice.

It looked like Celtic could be getting somewhere after Daizen Maeda put them in a deserved lead in the first half.

But just like in the final, Celtic looked a shadow of themselves after the interval.

Brazil, speaking on TalkSPORT, held Nancy to account for one comment in particular that he made after the game.

He said: “The Celtic boss, by all accounts, he said: ‘we are on the right track’. I’m sorry, we’re not on the right track.

“I’m trying my hardest to give this guy a chance, but we’re not on the right track. Because Celtic, with the amount of possession they’ve got, they should be pulverising these guys.

“I looked at the back three, and with the greatest respect, I’m looking going: ‘Hmmm. I don’t fancy this playing under pressure at all. Celtic will concede’.

“But at 1-0, I thought, ‘we’ll get away with this’, but then the second goal kills the game.

“I don’t know where to go with this guy, because he should never be there in the first place. At the end of the season, yes, when he can get his system out and get the players back and work with them for a few weeks…

“The way that Celtic have acted here – and Martin turns around and says, ‘I would’ve stayed’ – it doesn’t make sense.

“I didn’t see Juventus or Milan after Wilfried, so no rush.

“To be fair to the Celtic supporters, they turned up again. I was surprised to see so many, I really was.”

What now for Celtic boss Wilfried Nancy?

Hours before the game, Peter Lawwell announced his departure from the club amid ‘intolerable’ personal abuse.

But in the same breath, Chief Executive Michael Nicholson voiced his public backing of Nancy, leaving his position seemingly still safe despite the disastrous start.

After the reception that Nancy received at full time in Dundee, it will be fascinating to see the way that fans welcome him at Celtic Park on Sunday.

But one thing for sure is that the Celtic manager’s opening defeats have made an already-difficult job appear to be impossible.
