Alan Brazil lays into loud-mouthed talkSPORT colleague over nonsense Celtic comments

Alan Brazil likes to make his opinions known.

The ex-Scotland striker never played for Celtic, but as a boyhood supporter, he enjoys a moan about them on his morning radio show.

Unlike some of his colleagues, Brazil defends Scottish football where he can. He is close with departed Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers, and other big club figures.

A fortnight ago, Jamie O’Hara made headlines for his embarrassing claims about Stockport winning the Scottish Premiership ahead of Celtic. These were made on Sky, rather than the radio station.

But the loud-mouthed Englishman known for seeking attention with his words on talkSPORT too – Brazil has set his colleague straight.

Alan Brazil on Jamie O’Hara’s embarrassing Celtic comments

We’ve come to expect the attention-seeking on the radio station, but many expected better from Sky.

The entire conversation was clearly framed to try and humiliate Celtic-supporting guest Paul John Dykes, but it’s fair to say that this backfired.

Brazil was alongside Ally McCoist on Thursday morning, and the discussion inevitably reached Scottish football.

Brazil asked McCoist if he had posh seats for Rangers’ game against Braga at Ibrox, but he replied that he was working at it.

Brazil said: “Oh, you’re working at it!? What’s wrong with you? That means we’ll get a biased commentary.”

He sarcastically took a dig at his own employers for not covering the game, saying: “Is it on telly anywhere? Because I see that we’re taking it really seriously on talkSPORT.

“We’ve only got like a million listeners up there. It is [poor]. Who plans all this? That’s a disgrace.”

McCoist then said, “I know we haven’t spoke about it, but what about O’Hara. Did he not say Stockport would…”

Brazil interjected: “Aye, but that’s’ just… when you’re struggling for listeners, you say things just to get a reaction. We’ve gone way past that.

“One guy’s got to dress up as a clown, and the other guy’s got to come out with tripe like that. It’s all about listeners, Ally, don’t worry about that.

“Our graph just keeps going up and up and up.”

Who else has spoken out against Jamie O’Hara’s Celtic comments?

Hoops icon Scott Brown embarrassed O’Hara in an interview with the station the very next day, but this was just the tip of the iceberg.

They might not have been the most high-profile Celtic players, but Ramon Vega and Tony Cascarino both vehemently condemned O’Hara – the pair were still better footballers than he was.

Even ex-Celtic boss John Barnes, who rarely speaks about the Hoops nowadays (for understandable reasons), said that the comments lacked sense.

But perhaps the most embarrassing indictment was a literal Stockport fan, saying that claims his club would win the Scottish Premiership were ‘ridiculous’.
