Alan Brazil has shared a ‘Glasgow connection’ that could prove to be valuable if Celtic want Roberto Martinez to become their next permanent manager.
The talkSPORT host is a big Celtic supporter and believes that because Martinez’s wife is a ‘Glasgow girl’ then coming to the Bhoys could be a possibility.
Brazil told talkSPORT, “The latest coming through now as favourite is Roberto Martinez.
“His wife is a Glasgow girl. You have got to hold your hands up if that is the case and say he is a top manager.”
Would you take Roberto Martinez as Celtic’s permanent manager after the World Cup?
Gabby Agbonlahor doubts Celtic move for Roberto Martinez
Brazil’s co-host Gabby Agbonlahor seriously doubted that Martinez to Celtic rumours could happen and said any possible move would need to wait until after the World Cup.
Aston Villa hero Agbonlahor reacted to Brazil’s rumour and said, “He is a top manager, and maybe he is looking at the summer at the World Cup and thinking maybe have they got a chance of winning the World Cup? Maybe not.”
Brazil then replied, “He has great credentials.”
But it seems that Agbonlahor was still not having it and said, “Maybe it’s all planned for him to go in there, and maybe [Jose] Mourinho goes in there [Portugal] after the World Cup.”
The last time Roberto Martinez was actually linked to Celtic
As every Celtic supporter knows, rumours to the top Parkhead job always happen whenever the board are looking for a new manager.
However, the last time Celtic were rumoured alongside Martinez was six years ago when the Portuguese coach’s agent Jesse De Preter was forced to deny them.
De Preter said at the time, “Roberto always seems to be on the shortlist as soon as there is a vacancy at a big club. But this is a false rumour about him going to Celtic.
“It seems to have come from the fact Roberto has a Scottish wife, and he obviously has ties to the country.
“However, there’s nothing to see here and I would suggest the bookies review their odds.”
