Martin O’Neill has brought Celtic a lot of time in their search for a new manager.

Three wins out of three for the Celtic hero on the domestic scene, with the one defeat coming in Europe, as names left, right and centre have been linked to the Parkhead gig.

One man’s name that has been constantly doing the rounds is Wilfried Nancy, the coach of MLS side Columbus Crew.

And Alan Brazil shared his thoughts on these rumours emerging, including what he has been told about Celtic’s managerial search.

Celtic could take the Tony Bloom route with possible Wilfried Nancy appointment

Speaking on talkSPORT, Brazil shared that he’s been told Celtic are looking ‘left-field’ for their next manager – and it’s a road they have gone down before.

Brazil infamously mocked Celtic for appointing Ange Postecoglou in 2021. That proved to blow up in his face, and he mentioned that again, given the Nancy rumours.

The former striker also feels Celtic could be going down the Tony Bloom route, and that’s plucking a high-quality manager out of nothing.

“Someone said to me, they’re going to go real left-wing (field), something that we don’t know much about. And I thought, really?” stated Brazil.

“He said, ‘There are three we’re looking at’ –  I don’t know this guy. Do you, Ally (McCoist)? Wilfried Nancy has emerged as a leading contender to become Celtic’s new manager. The Scottish giants are also considering Bodø/Glimt’s. Is it Knutsen?

“But Frenchman Nancy seems as attainable at this stage. So, who are these people? I don’t know. Is he another Ange? Could history be about to repeat itself?

“Well, listen. I can hold my hands up when he starts winning everything. It’s not a problem. Maybe Nancy can do it as well. I don’t know who the other two are, by the way.

“They are out there. Brighton seem to find players and managers we don’t really know about. Maybe that’s what they are looking at to take a step out of the Brighton owner’s (Tony Bloom) book. I don’t know. Look at what he is doing with Hearts.”

Celtic shouldn’t part ways with Martin O’Neill just yet

Put aside Celtic’s horror defeat to FC Midtjylland in the Europa League; you can’t argue much with what O’Neill has been doing on his return.

That’s why Brazil is in the camp of Celtic, not having to be in a rush to appoint a new coach.

“There is a long way to go,” added Brazil. “Plus, with the break now, it’s nice that the board can get their heads together.

“I wouldn’t be in a rush to get rid of Martin (O’Neill) just yet.”
