Not many Celtic players can hold their heads up high following that showing in Midtjylland.

In truth, while Martin O’Neill has picked things up on the domestic stage since replacing Brendan Rodgers in the Celtic dugout, life has been even more difficult in Europe for the team overall.

Celtic are at risk of being eliminated from the league phase, which would be very embarrassing, but Johan Mjallby thinks there is a positive in Auston Trusty.

It wasn’t so long ago that Trusty was sitting on the bench, as Rodgers played out his final game for Celtic at Tynecastle, but since then, everything has been on the up for the American.

Even though Celtic were outclassed by Midtjylland, conceding chances for fun, including three goals in eight first-half minutes.

Mjallby wanted to single out Trusty for praise, even if it feels ‘strange’ to do so, as he told TNT Sports (06/11/25).

Reo Hatate pulled a goal back late on for Celtic via the penalty spot, but at 3-0 down, this is what Mjallby had to say about Trusty’s performance in Denmark.

“Funnily enough, Auston Trusty has had a good game,” said Mjallby. “Strange to say when you’re 3-0 down, but he has done a lot well defensively.”

What’s interesting is that Trusty was the only outfield Celtic player who was rated above seven in Denmark by Sofascore.

Kasper Schmeichel was rated the highest at 7.8 for his string of top saves and for helping Celtic avoid further embarrassment.
