Alan Brazil unimpressed as Ally McCoist repeats debunked ‘until Celtic score’ narrative

Celtic’s stoppage time goal against Kilmarnock is still nabbing the headlines this morning almost four full days after the event.

Julian Araujo’s stoppage time Celtic winner at Rugby Park closed the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership table to Hearts to just three points at the weekend.

There has been a strange trend appearing online as fans of other clubs reveal their pain over Celtic’s late goalscoring ability with many venting their anger towards the match officials.

Why have Celtic been able to score so many late goals this season?

That anger has not been helped by Neil McCann after the Kilmarnock boss’ Celtic pain shone through as he questioned the seven minutes of added on time at Rugby Park.

And even after Charlie Mulgrew debunked the Celtic narrative, talkSPORT presenter and former Rangers man Ally McCoist repeated it and it didn’t leave Alan Brazil looking too impressed.

Ally McCoist’s ‘until Celtic score’ dig does not impress Alan Brazil

Now, McCoist thinks this is hilarious but Celtic fans know that when a refereeing narrative is repeated enough, it piles pressure on the SFA officials, especially when heading into the business end of the season,

And as the conversation between the former Rangers man and Brazil continued, you could see the Celtic supporting talkSPORT presenter was not impressed.

Brazil said, ‘What about Scotland? Celtic were like a pub team in the first half.”

McCoist: “Man alive. Did you see that boy hold up added time on? There was no numbers on it. It just says, ‘Until Celtic score’.

Brazil: “I’ve had a few texts and emails like that.”

McCoist [with over the top laughing]: “Have you seen it? The fourth official was holding up the board and it said on it ‘Until Celtic score’.

“I was howling man. It was very funny.”

Clearly not funny enough as Brazil sat with a forced smile as McCoist peddled this referee narrative that is becoming extremely tiresome, and has been debunked numerous times.

You can watch Brazil’s reaction from nine minutes in below.

Celtic stoppage time narrative debunked

Indeed, this is not the first time Celtic have scored in the dying seconds as fans up and down the country feel the pain of the Scottish champions showing exactly why they are the champions.

Kilmarnock have felt this twice this season as have the fans of Livingston, Motherwell and St Mirren.

But what is being missed here, and being conveniently forgotten about with pundits like McCoist and Kris Boyd, is that both teams have the chance to score a late winner with this extra time.

If Celtic’s opponents stopped time-wasting and using tactics that forced the referee to add on these extra minutes, maybe, just maybe, the Bhoys wouldn’t use it to their advantage.

Just a thought.
