Alex Rae knows more than most the pain of losing to Celtic on the pitch and in the dugout.
Rae was one of Philippe Clement’s coaches charged with and failed to chase down Celtic during the Belgian’s time at Ibrox.
However, for the former Rangers midfielder, his pain continues after Rangers sacked Russell Martin with the Ibrox club sitting 8th in the league just four points from bottom.
And speaking about the troubles at his former club, Rae made a strange comparison between Celtic and Rangers as he talked about the Parkhead club’s late winner against Motherwell in the 3-2 win at Parkhead.

Alex Rae’s bizarre Celtic/Rangers comparison after late Motherwell win
The former Rangers coach has watched Celtic lift trophy after trophy over the last 25 years and during his coaching spell at Ibrox under Clement, that never really changed.
So when Rae spoke about Celtic’s late win against Motherwell and threw Rangers into the conversation, it was quite a bizarre moment that no one really picked up on.
Rae said on Superscoreboard, “The one thing about Celtic is they continuously try to do their kind of patterns of play.
“You know, the eights get in behind, and then the full backs get in as well. The wingers come in and inverted full backs, so they continue with their philosophy, and they end up grinding teams down.
“And that’s the reason why Rangers and Celtic predominantly over when they’ve been strong within chasing titles, that they managed to get the job done.”
Quite what Rae was talking about as Rangers have only pulled one late win out of the hat once over the last few years is quite something. Plus, how many times have his old club got the job done compared to Celtic again?
Other class moments of Alex Rae Celtic pain
Rae wears his Rangers heart firmly on his sleeve and, at times, the pain of watching Celtic be so successful slip out on the radio.
When Celtic put serious pressure on Rae’s Rangers the former Ibrox coach once admitted to Ally McCoist that the intense spotlight on him and Clement was crazy.
Rae also admitted that Rangers trying to copy Celtic’s transfer blueprint also cost Clement and, eventually, his own job at Ibrox.
And as the season is only less than a third complete, Celtic will undoubtedly cause Rae and his Rangers plenty of more pain as the fixtures get ticked off the calendar.
