Celtic’s left-back spot is one of the more interesting talking points of the team.
You could argue that it’s probably the one where the fans have more questions than answers regarding who will be Celtic’s long-term left-back.
On the one hand, you have Greg Taylor, who is the regular starter, but he will be out of contract in the summer and there aren’t any signs that he will sign a new deal.
Then there is rising star, Alex Valle, who started Celtic’s win over St Johnstone on Sunday, but he has played less than 1000 minutes of football since joining on-loan from Barcelona in the summer.
Many believe that Valle should be handed more starts, especially with Taylor’s situation and the fact that he divides opinion with his performances.
But there has also been talk that Valle could be headed back to Barcelona in January, on top of talks of Kieran Tierney possibly returning to Celtic.
Alex Valle tells Celtic fans ‘see you next year’ after win v St Johnstone
It would help Celtic’s cause if Valle isn’t recalled because then it would force the club to dip into the market and bring someone in.
Plus, the 20-year-old is proving to be a popular player and supporters would love the prospect of him signing long-term – even if it seems unlikely right now.
But, ahead of the New Year, Valle told fans ‘see you next year’ and that hopefully indicates he will still be playing in the green and white in 2025.
Celtic supporters were rushing into the comments section to tell him to stay where he is and sign a permanent contract, although Barcelona supporters were also doing the same and telling him to return.
‘Come back to Barcelona,’ wrote _aneerban, whilst Celtic fan jackturnbull_1 posted an emoji of someone signing a contract.
User Joemaclean posted a gif of Roy Keane where he is saying ‘sign it’ and other Barca fans added about how they ‘miss’ him.
Celtic fan ‘casyk’ told Valle ‘should always start for us’ and becksemple67 told him ‘Pls stay, Alex’.
Valle’s stats for Celtic against St Johnstone
Celtic take on Rangers next at Ibrox and Rodgers has a big call to make as to whether he sticks with the Spanish star.
Taylor made a mistake against Rangers in the cup final, before redeeming himself and scoring the equaliser.
Whatever call Rodgers makes, Valle is certainly making a case for himself after he was rated 7.86 by WhoScored for his performance against St Johnstone.
