Ex-Celtic man Alex Valle is flying at Como.

The defender’s loan in Glasgow was terminated last January, allowing him to swap the Clyde for Lake Como.

To nobody’s surprise, that doesn’t seem to have been a bad decision, with Valle excelling for Cesc Fabregas’ side since the move became permanent for €6 million.

On Sunday evening, he was named man of the match by several outlets as Como jumped to fourth in Serie A with a 2-1 win over Roma.

Roma were a goal ahead at the break, but Valle played a leading role in the hosts’ second half turnaround.

His perfectly-timed through ball allowed Anastasios Douvikas to equalise, before ex-Aston Villa defender Diego Carlos grabbed the winner with ten minutes remaining.

Both Fotmob and Sofascore named Valle as man of the match, and a look at the numbers makes it little wonder why.

Valle completed 18 carries as a left-wing-back, progressing the ball by a total of 127 metres. He completed 100% of his attempted long passes and made five passes into the opposing final third, whilst defensively, he made five recoveries and didn’t commit a single foul.

The La Masia graduate made 19 appearances under Brendan Rodgers in Glasgow, though most of these were from the bench.

Of course, he isn’t the only former Celt on the books at Como. Nicolas Kuhn made a £16.5 million move to the Serie A side in the summer.

The winger has, however, failed to have a similar impact to Valle. He was an unused substitute in Sunday’s win, and has scored just once in seven games’ worth of minutes this season.

Some Barcelona fans are criticising the club for letting go of the 21-year-old, though they should be alright with Joao Cancelo and Alejandro Balde.

Alex Valle’s farewell to Celtic

Upon the end of his short stint at Celtic Park, Valle posted a heartfelt goodbye to the Parkhead faithful on social media.

He wrote: “Dear Celtic and Celtic fans… thank you for giving me the opportunity to join such a big and historic club like Celtic.

“I’ve made my Champions League debut, and I have won the first title of my professional career.

“It was short but I tried to enjoy and give my best every day for the badge and for its amazing fans, massive part of the club.

“Thanks again for everything. Hail Hail.”
