Celtic defender Alistair Johnston sounds like he’s absolutely loving working under Brendan Rodgers.

The Canada international had to wait patiently for his chance to impress under the Hoops boss. Johnston missed the first six weeks of the season, only returning at the end of August.

Since then, he has started five consecutive matches and become a big part of the side again. And it seems like is already loving working with the former Liverpool and Leicester City coach.

“Brendan’s been great,” said the full-back in an exclusive interview with CBS Sports.

“Coming in, I’d obviously heard a lot of things. His resume speaks for itself — what he’s won at Celtic and some of the other clubs he’s been at.

“As soon as his name was linked with the job I think a lot of us were really intrigued by that.

“He’s an unbelievably personable guy, and all of the stories I’d heard about him from his previous stint here were exactly that. He really takes the time to go out of his way and learn some of the finer details about guys’ personal lives and football lives.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time so far with him. Of course now when you’re winning everything feels even better. So it’s been a really good start under Brendan, and of course, it’s nice to see that Ange is getting all of his flowers down at Tottenham because he deserves it.

“I’ve been lucky so far at Celtic to work under two very top managers.”

It’s interesting to hear that Johnston and his team-mates were intrigued when Rodgers‘ name was first linked. The successor to Ange Postecoglou always had to be a good one given the impact that the Aussie had on the club over two seasons.

The players may have been feeling pretty flat when news of his departure to Spurs came out. But the appointment of Rodgers would have excited them greatly, given his track record in the game.

Celtic are yet to hit the heights from last season under Rodgers. But there have been signs in recent weeks of the team beginning to hit their stride. The players don’t seem to have a bad word to say about their current boss.

Things are heading in the right direction.
