Celtic won’t waste long dwelling on their derby loss against Rangers in midweek with the task of taking on St Mirren tomorrow firmly on their mind.

Ultimately, the Bhoys were well below part at Ibrox and suffered a rare defeat in what has otherwise been an excellent campaign for Brendan Rodgers’ men.

Reflections on the match have been fairly concise, with the Celtic support split down the middle after the loss to Rangers.

Some are mindful that the Bhoys still hold an 11-point advantage at the summit, while others are concerned by the manner of the performance.

Speaking after the match, Johnston vowed that Celtic will now look to ‘kick on’ after their defeat to Rangers at Ibrox and indicated the loss has served as a reminder that there is still a long way to go this term.

He stated: “Yeah, I don’t think complacency is the word. It’s going to happen in football They’re a good team. Again, we weren’t at the races from the get-go, and they punished us. Unfortunately, we just couldn’t find a way to really get a grip of the game.

“That comes down to us more than anything. I wouldn’t say it’s complacency. You can see the passion in the guys’ eyes. It wasn’t our day. And we’ve got to take our medicine and understand that as much as we want to be perfect every day, we weren’t tonight. Now, we’ve got to kick on.

“This could be a massive thing that we can look at and now bounce back from and use as motivation to remind ourselves that there’s still a long way to go here.”

Celtic probing in the transfer market to boost title efforts

Johnston is correct to suggest that there can be no room for complacency at Celtic, which is why Rodgers and company are hard at work in the transfer window to secure reinforcements.

Entering the forefront, talks are advancing over Kieran Tierney returning to Parkhead after Arsenal made it clear he would be free to leave by opting not to activate his one-year extension clause.

Celtic may also be in the market for two wingers this month. Luis Palma is attracting interest and could make way for fresh blood in the wide berths.

For now, three points against St Mirren is all that matters. Any memory of a dismal day at Ibrox can hopefully be banished with a confident display back on home soil.
