The Canada international has put in a serious of excellent displays, registering four goals and four assists in 16 appearances across all competitions.

Ultimately, Brendan Rodgers will be desperate to tie down his prize assets at Celtic. Success on the domestic scene and in the Champions League should be enough to ward off interest, but you can never be too careful.

Now, reports suggest the Bhoys could be on the verge of carrying out that practice in a move that will delight supporters.

Alistair Johnston on the verge of Celtic contract renewal

According to The Daily Record, Celtic full-back Johnston is on the brink of signing a new deal at the club that will take him beyond his current length of 2027.

The report suggests the Canadian will also earn a ‘significant’ salary increase on new terms, with initial talks from September said to have advanced considerably.

Johnston’s representatives are now in Glasgow to put the finishing touches to negotiations, and there is confidence from Celtic that his extension will be wrapped up in swift fashion.

Greg Taylor is also mentioned, but there has been nothing agreed over extending his terms at Parkhead amid the defender now being into his final year.

Celtic supporters will be delighted by Johnston’s extension

It goes without saying, but Johnston is a key cog in the Celtic machine and news he is set to be around for longer is beneficial for everyone.

Providing an evergreen source of energy on the right-hand side, his commitment at both ends of the pitch makes him one of the best full-backs in the country.

Hopefully, he can continue to kick on at Celtic as the Bhoys look to continue their brilliant form both domestically and on the continent, which he is sure to continue playing a major role in.
