New Celtic defender Alistair Johnston has posted a message to Twitter to share his delight at signing for the Bhoys on a five-year deal today.

Johnston arrives from CF Montreal in Major League Soccer, fresh after starring for his national team Canada at the World Cup.

Writing on the social media site, with his account being confirmed as official by Montreal, Johnston said: “Beyond buzzing to have signed for Celtic FC. Thank you for all the kind messages and can’t wait to get to paradise 🍀”

Johnston, since first questioned about the links to Celtic, has always projected he is immensely excited about this career opportunity.

We know Ange Postecoglou appreciates highly motivated and ambitious individuals making up his squad and all the energy coming from the right-back suggests he is in that mould.

The manager has already noted he thinks the defender will be a good fit in the dressing room.

Still just 24, the Vancouver-born talent has an excellent chance to improve the progress he has shown with Montreal and Canada, forging a strong career path in Europe.

Competition for the right-back positions is now fierce with Josip Juranovic and Anthony Ralston also in place to push for a starting spot in Postecoglou’s team.

However, it does also protect the Bhoys against any transfer interest in Juranovic, which is expected after the World Cup.

This move is a sign of Celtic planning ahead for all eventualities and being proactive in strengthening of the squad and first team.

Now it’s up to Johnston to make the impact we’re all hoping for.
