‘All about us’… Neil Lennon defends Brendan Rodgers, tells him to ‘ignore’ one thing at Celtic

Celtic reacted to their recent disappointment at the weekend by disposing of Motherwell in a late victory at Fir Park.

Despite being a goal down at the interval, the Bhoys reacted in excellent fashion after Adam Idah’s introduction to the fold, as the Republic of Ireland international struck twice to turn the tide, including a stoppage-time winner.

Luis Palma acted with almost the last kick to add some polish to the scoreline; however, Brendan Rodgers’ bullish comments made just as much of an impression on the day.

Speaking post-match, the Irishman stated: “Four points would have been nothing, but it was important for us to get the win today psychologically. There’s a story being written about this club, but we will write our own story.”

Following the exchange, Rodgers then abruptly ended the interview, which had made for interesting reading in external circles over the last few days.

Nevertheless, a siege mentality could be what is needed to ignite the Bhoys’ fire as they chase a domestic double, something his side will be keen to continue building towards by defeating Dundee at Parkhead tomorrow night.

Heart of Midlothian await soon after in what could be a telling week for Celtic in the context of their Scottish Premiership title hopes.

Neil Lennon says Brendan Rodgers needs to ‘ignore’ Celtic critics

Neil Lennon has fought fire as a Celtic manager many times in the past and has urged Rodgers to ‘ignore’ outside critics in his quest to deliver success at Parkhead.

Backing up his countryman, the Lurgan-born man has also indicated that the task of facing Rangers isn’t what is ‘killing his old side; it is rather their frequent habit of dropping points elsewhere.

Lennon stated [PLZ Soccer]: “I mean, they have had two defeats, haven’t they? I think Rangers have had four. So it’s the draws that are killing them at the minute.”

He later added on Rodgers’ comments: “I liked Brendan’s reaction. I’d have done the same. Batten down the hatches. Don’t let anything out, don’t let anything in. It’s all about us, and we will create our own story. And ignore the noise. It’s difficult, but the noise isn’t the reality.

“The reality is once that whistle goes for the 94/95 minutes, that’s our reality. How we answer the critics is winning football games and trying to win them well.”

Celtic need to show why they deserve to be champions

Unlike recent seasons, Celtic are up against a rival opponent that are likely to fight it out for the title until the end, meaning Rodgers’ side have no room to slip up from now on.

Too many points have been dropped in this campaign from our point of view; however, we all know there are twists and turns left, giving the Bhoys time to flip the script.

For now, making sure we claim maximum points at home to Dundee will take precedence before out trip to Edinburgh later in the week.
