"All my heart"; Juranovic brushes off Croatian media's Celtic transfer question

Croatian media have cheekily asked Celtic right-back Josip Juranovic if he’s thinking about a transfer from Parkhead.

Thankfully, the loveable Croatia international brushed off the question with an emphatic declaration of happiness at Celtic.

Juranovic has been an absolutely inspired signing. Already a Croatia national player, Juranovic was signed for just £2.5m [Sky Sports] after winning a Polish title with Legia Warsaw. Having been linked with nearly every right-back in Europe back in the summer, Juranovic’s signing was an extremely exciting one.

Football being as it is, though, the right-back is inevitably going to catch glances from scouts. Especially given how cheaply Celtic were able to sign Juranovic, who’s approaching his prime years. The Croat has provided energy, ruthlessness and class down the right flank, although he’s also been just as effective covering on the left.

So, no question there’ll be teams after him in the summer. Juranovic, though, isn’t thinking about it.

At the Croatian training camp, Juranovic said of his affection for Celtic [Sportske Novosti]: “Celtic is a great club.

“I enjoy it from the first day, I go to training with a smile, I enjoy the club, the city, the fans.

“Transfer? There are always some stories, but I leave that to my manager, I am at Celtic with all my heart.”

Celtic entertaining a bid for Croatia international Juranovic seems fanciful

Woah there. Hold your horses.

It’d be awful if Juranovic left Celtic in the summer. We’ve just managed to sort out our right-back slot, with two excellent options in both him and Anthony Ralston.

And while no player is irreplaceable, losing Juranovic would be a hefty one to take. The guy has been a delight from day one at Celtic. He has that combination of technique, graft and gallus that’s perfect for a Celtic right-back; think of Mikael Lustig’s exact qualities.

He also has something here no other fan-base can give him: a repurposed Pitbull song in his honour.

Inevitably, when you unearth top talents and show them off on a weekly, sometimes bi-weekly basis, clubs around Europe will pay attention. That’s just what happens, as we’ve seen countless times. Juranovic, as an absolute star man for Celtic, is one of those who will have impressed.

Especially in the Europa League, where his performances and Panenka penalties grabbed headlines. Talk of a transfer though?

I can’t speak for every Celtic fan, but I can almost hear a human barricade forming around Parkhead at the very thought.

No; his heart belongs at Celtic. Let’s hope that’s the case for years to come.
