Celtic loanee Liam Scales has found a new lease of life at Aberdeen. After a shaky start to his Dons career, the young Irishman has hit a purple patch of form that has seen him help the Dons surge to third place in the SPFL.
So impressive has he been, it seems that Aberdeen could look at making the loan move permanent this summer. Aberdeen CEO Alan Burrows opened up on the Pittodrie club’s summer plans and hinted that Scales could be a player they would like to ‘retain’.

Burrows said [Aberdeen Live], “I would like to avoid going into talking about specific players because that wouldn’t be fair, particularly if they have got parent clubs at this moment in time. But I think Barry is on record as saying that there are a number of players who are doing a really good job at the minute that in an ideal world he would like to retain.
“Myself, Steven Gunn and the board have been working on trying to do that, whilst at the same time looking for players elsewhere. Those discussions are very mature at this particular point, and now that we have got a bit of certainty regarding the manager, our hope now is that the process can get kicked on further.”
Aberdeen manager, Barry Robson singled out Scales for his ‘outstanding‘ performance against Rangers two weeks ago. The third-placed club have attempted to secure the Irishman on a permanent deal under previous boss, Jim Goodwin but Celtic felt at that time he may still have a role to play at the club.
Whether that feeling remains the same after Yuki Kobayashi’s signing remains unclear but it does seem that if he was to return to the club, he would be Celtic’s FIFTH choice centre-back behind the Japanese defender and Stephen Welsh.
Scales has also been hailed by his Aberdeen teammates this season and he has been credited as playing a huge part in turning around their fortunes in the league.
