The fallout continues with Celtic’s win over Rangers as Ally McCoist makes two confessions after analysing the game and both teams’ performances.
Celtic cruised to a win as they hammered Rangers 3-0 at Celtic Park as Brendan Rodgers stamped his authority over the Ibrox club.
That’s now six games unbeaten for the Celtic boss against Rangers and out of all of them, many Parkhead supporters will believe that yesterday’s win was probably the easiest.
Already today we have discussed Graeme Souness’ bizarre claim on how he thought the game went. The former Rangers manager doesn’t believe that there is that much of a gap between Celtic and Rangers and even said that the Parkhead defeat is not as bad as some people are making out.
However, Ally McCoist has a differing view and it is the complete opposite of what his former Rangers gaffer thinks.
McCoist: Celtic didn’t get out of second gear
Even McCoist could see the result and the performance of both teams for what it was. Celtic were dominant and Rangers were nowhere near it.
And in this realisation, McCoist also makes a claim about Rangers’ 2021 title win that many Celtic fans have already theorised.
McCoist said on talkSPORT, “That was so disappointing, I mean I was devastated. Celtic didn’t even look like they got out of second gear mate, you know and we’re just lacking leadership.
“Do you know what somebody said to me? And I kind of brushed it off at the time, but the more I think about that particular season [COVID title], which was a fantastic achievement, I just wonder the fact that there were no people at the games, I’m just wondering if it actually really did help Rangers more than I thought.
“I thought to myself it wouldn’t have made that much of a difference. However, I look at some of the players nowadays, and I think they’re affected by handling the pressure.
“I think that particular season playing behind closed doors actually suited them.”
Celtic are miles ahead of Rangers
And that is the stark reality of it all. Stripping back McCoist’s comments about the COVID title, the former Rangers man is correct about one thing.

Celtic still had another couple of gears in them and if they wanted to, could have easily kicked them in and put the game even further beyond Rangers than it already was.
Kris Boyd labelled the Celtic defeat as ’embarrassing’ for Rangers and he wasn’t far wrong. With Celtic already five points ahead of their Glasgow rivals with just four games gone, you just get the feeling that this is going to be a long and hard season for the Ibrox club.
