Celtic are involved in a cup tie for the ages this weekend.

In the Scottish Cup fourth round, Martin O’Neill will be taking the Celts to face junior side Auchinleck Talbot.

The tie generated huge excitement when the draw was made, but it has since been revealed that the game will be played at Rugby Park, instead of the famous Beechwood Park.

Another story surrounding the game has been Auchinleck signing Argyll McCoist – son of Ally – on loan, just weeks before the game.

However, his Dad has now revealed that he won’t be playing against Celtic.

McCoist Junior joined Auchinleck on loan from Carlisle United at the back end of December.

It goes without saying that he plays as a striker.

But he won’t be scoring against Celtic at Rugby Park this weekend, his Dad has revealed while speaking on talkSPORT.

McCoist said: “Cup tied. I think he’s cup tied.

“Although, what I’m going to do is… I’m going to get Eddie Howe to give him a call on the Semenyo situation, just to see if he can play.

“But nah, I think he’s cup tied. I’ve been down to Auchinleck a couple of times, it’s a good standard. I’ve certainly enjoyed watching them training.

“They’ve got a massive, massive game at the weekend. They’ve had to move it, for whatever reason, from their own ground to Kilmarnock.

“I think it’s Rugby Park where it’s getting played, which would definitely suit Celtic. I get the finances and all that side, I get that carry on…

“But I’d have loved to have seen the game down in Auchinleck. I’d have loved to have seen it. You just go down to that wee tight park, you can get close to players… that’s what it’s all about.”

Other recent Celtic ties against part-time opposition

It was just two years ago when the Hoops last faced a side from outside the top four divisions in Scotland; they beat Buckie Thistle 5-0 at Celtic Park.

They beat Brechin City by the same scoreline under Brendan Rodgers in 2018 – they were in the second tier at the time, but now find themselves in the Highland League.

Celtic faced East Kilbride while they were still in the Lowland League under Ronny Deila – the 2-0 result didn’t reflect too well on Celtic.

Celtic’s 2-1 defeat to Clyde in 2006 remains infamous, particularly for Roy Keane’s involvement.
