The world of Celtic can change at any moment, but right now, Wilfried Nancy seems to be the frontrunner for the manager’s job.
Not many Celtic fans would have known about Nancy, but they have been learning a lot about the Columbus Crew boss in recent times.
When Brendan Rodgers left Celtic, the supporters were dreaming of a few big names taking over the hotseat, or those with established records in Europe.
There is a sense of concern from some part of the fanbase that Celtic are possibly going for Nancy, but Ally McCoist thinks there is a clear reason why that shouldn’t be the case.

Ally McCoist on Celtic’s lack of fear with Wilfried Nancy, thanks to Ange Postecoglou
If Celtic bring in Nancy, it would be a left-field appointment, just like when the Hoops brought in Ange Postecoglou from Japan in 2021.
Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist used the Treble-winning coach as an example that Celtic can go into appointing Nancy ‘without fear’ because Postecoglou has set the trend.
“Do you know one thing about Celtic, when they went with Postecoglou, they now know, without fear, that they can go and get somebody that might be slightly under the radar or off a lot of people’s radar,” said McCoist.
“But that doesn’t mean that he isn’t going to be a success.”
Alan Brazil: “The classic example is Arsene Wenger. When he came to Arsenal and David Dein introduced him.
“People were going, ‘Who is this guy?’ So, they are out there.”
McCoist: “I am with you. But is that where we are with Celtic and Rangers, in terms of, I am saying they aren’t going to get. It used to be, whether it was Souness or Dick Advocaat or Brendan Rodgers. All that stuff.
“Are those days gone now?”
McCoist on Celtic’s call with Martin O’Neill
That Monday evening when Rodgers left Celtic was pure drama, and a few hours in Celtic’s history that will never be forgotten.
But McCoist thinks the champions of Scotland did the right thing by bringing in Martin O’Neill, and the legendary coach has provided a ‘safety valve’ to get a new man in.
“They have to get it right, don’t they?” said McCoist about Celtic’s manager search.
“They are very, very fortunate, due to the good decision that they made, a very good decision, bringing Martin in. Martin knows the club. He has been there before. He has been over the course and distance.
“It gives them the safety valve of a bit of time, doesn’t it?”
