Celtic midfielder, Matt O’Riley, has been earning rave reviews since he joined the club back in January 2022.
A relative unknown, O’Riley quickly showed the Celtic fans what he was all about in his debut against Hearts at Tynecastle where he created an assist in the 2-1 win in the capital.
Since then, O’Riley has been pivotal to Celtic’s success as he has picked up five domestic trophies out of six in his first two seasons at the club.
However, it is this season where the Danish international has really improved. Under Brendan Rodgers, O’Riley has become a more potent attacking threat and is Celtic’s top goalscorer this season in the SPFL with 10 strikes to his name.
This form earned him a call-up to the Danish national side and O’Riley earned his first cap in the 2-0 defeat to Northern Ireland back in November.
Denmark assistant manager and former Celtic hero, Morten Weighorst has opened up on what he has seen from O’Riley and admits that he has been impressed with the Celtic midfielder’s progress at the club.
Wieghorst said [Celtic YouTube], “It’s been amazing to see Matt’s progress. It’s a joy because when you meet Matt you sense that he is a player who wants to make the most of his career.
“He does everything possible to improve his own game and he’s a team player. He’s with Denmark, he’s very important to Celtic this season as he was last season
“And with the Denmark team competition is fierce but he’s not frightened of the competition.
“He’s doing everything he can to try and get into the team and when he’s been with us he’s shown his quality and, yeah, we’ll we’ll keep following Matt’s progress.”

This season, and in particular Europe, O’Riley has been superb for Celtic. The Hoops midfielder has been earning rave reviews in the Champions League and it is little wonder transfer interest in him in January was high.
There is no doubt that come the summer, Celtic will be seriously tested for the 23-year-old as teams across Europe circle around him.
But for now, the Celtic fans will just be hoping that the young Dane will do all he can to fire the Hoops to the title and into next season’s Champions League group stages.
