Celtic will undoubtedly have a few contenders for the SPFL Player of the Year.

Kasper Schmeichel has been excellent in goal for Celtic, Callum McGregor has been a stalwart in the heart of midfield and Alistair Johnston has been excellent on the right flank.

And that’s before Celtic hero Daizen Maeda, Nicolas Kuhn, and Cameron Carter-Vickers have been spoken about.

But there are two clear contenders for the award according to Andy Halliday as he says there is one Celtic first-team player who wins it by ‘a country mile’.

Halliday says ‘it’s impossible’ to look past Celtic’s Daizen Maeda for POTY

Talking about Celtic’s win over Hearts, Si Ferry asked Halliday who he thought was the best player in the league this season and Halliday was in no doubt who should pick up the award.

Ferry said on Open Goal: “Is Maeda the Player of the Year?”

Halliday: “By a country mile. I think it’s impossible for anyone to overtake Maeda now. Impossible.

“I think Maeda, Kuhn, Triantis and Dalby are the four [nominations].

Daizen Maeda’s Celtic stats vs Nicolas Kuhn

So to put Halliday’s theory to the test, 67 Hail Hail has decided to compare Daizen Maeda’s stats this season to Nicolas Kuhn.

With both players on fire, Maeda edges it as he has been consistent throughout the whole season where Kuhn’s form has dropped off over the last few weeks.
