Brendan Rodgers has had a number of injuries to contend with over the last few months.

The Celtic manager’s squad strength has been really tested over the last few months, having had Paulo Bernardo, James Forrest, Auston Trusty and now Kasper Schmeichel all out injured at various points.

With Bernardo and Forrest returning to action in Celtic’s win over Hearts, Brendan Rodgers is starting to get his main players back for the crucial end of the season.

And now, Rodgers has delivered an update on another long-term injury as the Hoops prepare to face St Johnstone at the weekend.

Liam Scales ‘not ready’ for Celtic vs St Johnstone but will return to training soon

Liam Scales was injured in Celtic’s win over St Mirren back in the beginning of March and, it seems he could be about ten days away from returning to first-team action.

Rodgers told Celtic TV: “They spent a long time out, in particular James.

“For them to get the feel of being on the field again in a competitive game was really good. I think the big strength this season has been the squad.

“That has really helped us get through a really busy schedule. We’ve got Liam Scales now, he won’t be ready for this weekend but he’ll be back in training non-contact with the team.

“We expect Liam to be available also leading into the Kilmarnock game. So we’re starting to get the players back and having a really strong squad again.”

Liam Scales’ season at Celtic as Maik Nawrocki comes to the fore

Scales has had a decent season at Celtic so far and has, at times, kept Auston Trusty out of the side.

In 32 appearances this season, Scales has scored three and created three, which isn’t a bad return from the Irish defender.

But now that Maik Nawrocki has returned to the Celtic first team, where does that leave both players when Scales returns to the matchday squad?

It is likely Nawrocki will drop out and Scales will return to the Celtic bench or first team depending on Auston Trusty’s injury status but for the fans and Rodgers, having every player available is a boost at this stage of the season.
