Martin O’Neill’s Celtic now set to test the Rangers flaw Andy Halliday sees under Danny Rohl

It’s going to be one of the biggest Glasgow derbies in many a year on Sunday.

Celtic have a huge chance to increase their chances of winning the Premiership title, all while ending Rangers’ faint hopes of taking Scotland’s main crown.

Martin O’Neill and Danny Rohl have faced each other three times over the Irishman’s scattered spells in Glasgow, and the German has never come out on top.

That’s something Andy Halliday wanted to note when Rangers were beaten by Hearts on Bank Holiday Monday, and how Rohl simply doesn’t win those ‘big games.’

“Danny Rohl hasn’t managed to beat Martin O’Neill in three games,” said Halliday. “He’s not managed to win at Tynecastle. He’s not managed to win at Easter Road. He’s not managed to win at Fir Park.

“In these big games, he’s fallen short.”

Celtic can pile more misery on Danny Rohl and Rangers

Yes, Rohl’s Rangers beat Celtic after the turn of the year, but that was when Wilfried Nancy was in the dugout, and he was booted out days later.

For the most part, Rohl has struggled, and O’Neill has showcased that old school still works in this modern age of tiki-taka, double pivots and false nines.

Hopefully, on Sunday, Celtic and O’Neill can continue to pile more misery on the Gers, which would only deepen the wounds of Rohl.

You even have Halliday, who is a Rangers fan, seeing sense with the man in the Ibrox dugout and how he is seemingly a flat-track bully.

But of course, this wouldn’t be a surprise to the Celtic Park faithful, because they have seen this story emerge again and again from across the road.

“I think Rangers are out of the title race through a larger percentage of mistakes from Russell Martin and the disaster that was the first two months of the season,” said Halliday

“But that being said, Rangers were still in two cup competitions when Danny Rohl came in. They fought their way back into a title race, which I think a lot of people made them favourites for going into the split.

“Danny Rohl hasn’t managed to beat Martin O’Neill in three games. He’s not managed to win at Tynecastle. He’s not managed to win at Easter Road. He’s not managed to win at Fir Park.

“In these big games, he’s fallen short. As much as they dragged themselves back into a title race, there will be question marks. 100% there will be question marks.”
