The Celtic academy has been a great platform for players to progress their careers and reach the highest level.

But not just for the academy stars, those gems who have arrived via the transfer market, they have come in and then gone on to kick on elsewhere.

Yes, Celtic fans would love for these players to stay on board, but unfortunately, they can’t compete from a financial aspect with other sides in Europe.

Matt O’Riley left Celtic this summer and has started his Premier League career with a bang, with the club making a huge profit from his talents.

The biggest academy name to depart in recent times was Kieran Tierney, with the left-back leaving his boyhood club and joining Arsenal in 2019.

Tierney was a regular starter at Celtic, before he departed, but a certain Ben Doak decided to go down a different road after he broke through.

The 19-year-old has made headlines recently after bringing a new lease of life to the Scotland side.

Boyhood Celtic fan Andy Robertson has taken the teenager under his wings and shared that ‘I’m always on Doaky’, as quoted by Gazette Live.

Robertson has shared that Doak is ‘flying’ and he is simply ‘trying to get the best out of him’, as Celtic fans will look on with interest to see just how far their former academy star can rise.

“I’m always on Doaky just because of the Liverpool connection,” Robertson said. “I just like being on him and trying to get the best out of him.

“The wee man’s flying and he’s doing so well, which is great to see. He’s got a bright future ahead of him.”

Why did Doak leave Celtic?

It’s brave for such a young player to leave the comfort of his boyhood club, where there is a lot of familiarity, and change all of that up by moving to England and a giant club like Liverpool.

Doak stuck his chest out and, as of this moment, he is progressing and is looking like a serious prospect.

The all-action winger is currently on loan at Championship side Middlesbrough and the player shared in October why he departed Celtic, as quoted by Liverpool News.

“I wasn’t really thinking about playing with Scotland at that point (when Doak left Celtic for Liverpool),” Doak said. “To be honest, I felt like that was the right move at the time to go down south and go and play and train at an elite level.

“Everyone knows how good the Liverpool squad has been and how they are doing currently. They’re top of the league, so I didn’t see any cons to going there.”
