Andy Walker drops Celtic truth bombs to Rangers as he sees through Philippe Clement’s nonsense

Celtic can pile more misery on Rangers on Thursday.

Some thought there would be a title challenge this season, some even felt that before Celtic’s League Cup final triumph.

But, fast forward to the present and to reality, and Celtic can go 17 points clear if they beat Rangers at Ibrox.

Thankfully, those in the Rangers towers haven’t sacked Philippe Clement yet, but perhaps they will wait for Brendan Rodgers to land the final nail in the coffin.

Whether it’s Rodgers’ first spell, or now upon his return, he is a master and seeing off many managers from the other side and it won’t be too long before another one bites the dust.

Either way, Andy Walker isn’t buying into the nonsense he is hearing about Rangers and kept things pretty straight ahead of the derby.

Andy Walker says Celtic’s lead over Rangers ‘will only grow’

There came a period, just before the Hampden thriller, when Rangers were going through a positive run and Walker thinks certain people were ‘buying into’ that nonsense.

The former striker dropped it straight and stated how Rangers have ‘spent so much on players’, but then proceeded to ‘squander’ it all, as he told Go Radio.

Walker added that it’s ’embarrassing’ for those in Rangers colours to be 14 points behind and he stated what Celtic can do that their rivals can only dream of doing.

“I look at Rangers, at the moment, but they have squandered a lot of money,” said Walker. “I don’t know if they are buying into Philippe Clement and what he has done in maybe the good parts of the season.

“I know it’s an embarrassment to be 14 points behind. I think that will only grow. But what if you get rid of him? What money have you got to give somebody else to come in? They have squandered so much. They have spent so much on players that are no longer there.

“For the new guys that are behind the scenes and maybe making the big decisions. It’s a really big call. I think Celtic can go to Ibrox and win. I think they are that good. We are at this stage of the season and they have lost four league goals. It’s astonishing. I don’t think they have lost a goal in perhaps the last five or six games. Celtic are really strong, at the moment. What Celtic can do that Rangers can’t. They can turn to players that aren’t recognised. They can turn to other players and get the job done, and look really good.”

Philippe Clement’s record as Rangers manager against Celtic

It has been a long while since Rangers have been able to taste any sort of victory over Celtic and they will likely have to wait a little longer yet.

Clement wasn’t even in the dugout the last time that happened, as he has only managed one draw against the champions as Rangers boss.

Whether Celtic play well, concede first, score first, Parkhead, Ibrox or Hampden. There is always, for the most part, only one result!
