Celtic know that in Rangers, this season, the Ibrox club could present a stiffer test.
Now that Rangers have the 49ers Enterprises’ backing, Celtic know that there is now money available to invest in the Ibrox first-team.
How much, no one really knows. As for Celtic, everyone knows the Parkhead club’s financial situation. The Bhoys are still the richest club in Scotland.
But despite all that and for all the current transfer activity that has gone on between the two clubs, former Celtic striker Andy Walker has delivered a brutal truth to Rangers manager Russell Martin about Brendan Rodgers’ first team squad.

Andy Walker says Celtic have players who can ‘scare the opposition’ and Rangers don’t
The former Celtic striker was asked if he thought Rangers would offer a stiffer challenge to Brendan Rodgers this season.
Agreeing, Walker still told the Ibrox club that despite the investment so far, their squad is still lacking the quality that Celtic currently have.
Walker told The Go Radio Football Show, “I think Rangers will be better. I can’t see them doing what they did last season, losing to St Mirren a couple of times, Motherwell, Hibs, those results were really poor.
“But I’ve always felt last season, the biggest difference between Celtic and Rangers, you look at Celtic, I think they have players that can scare any opposition.
“I look at Rangers last season, I think Cerny, sometimes Dessers, even then you didn’t have Rangers supporters being convinced about them.
“I’m not sure, this season, what players will scare the opposition.”

To further prove his point, Walker then took a look at the Ibrox club’s best players and compared them to Celtic’s and still came to the same conclusion.
Celtic still have more players who will hurt teams in the Scottish Premiership compared to Rangers.
Walker continued, “I mean, Gassama I think has got a right good chance of being a special player. He scored a great goal the other night.
“And I think when you look at Celtic, they’ve had Kyogo, they’ve still got Maeda, they’ve got Callum McGregor, they’ve got someone at the back that you can absolutely rely upon when he’s fit, Carter-Vickers.
“They’ve got Tierney who’s got all that experience. I think Celtic have got players that can scare the opposition and Rangers, that’s something that they need to develop.”
Celtic are still to add more fresh faces to the first-team squad. Brendan Rodgers has made it abundantly clear that the Hoops front line is a matter of priority.
With over a month of the transfer window to go, the Celtic manager still has time to get the players he wants but maybe not in time for the season kick-off against St Mirren at Celtic Park on Sunday.
