Ange Postecoglou has addressed the “inflatable kangaroos and cork hats” as he admitted he needs to teach the Celtic support a little more about Aussie culture.

Parkhead was absolutely rocking on trophy day yesterday as the Hoops produced a stunning 6-0 mauling of Motherwell to mark the occasion.

It was also a day that saw the departure of current Socceroo and club icon Tom Rogic, who featured in his last game as he prepares to depart along with Nir Bitton.

The contest was a sell-out with many supporters showing signs of support for the manager and playr through Australian symbolism. There were plenty of Aussie national team jerseys as well as cork hats on show, and Ange reacted to it all when speaking to Australian outlet 10 Football after the match:

“I’ve had unbelievable support from back home. You guys know better than me, I tried to do that back when I was in Australia but I felt like I was pushing uphill. It’s not about me but the fact they’re now following the game – it’s all I ever really wanted.

“It’s been great. The people here – there’s been inflatable kangaroos and cork hats! Yeah, I’ve got to teach them a little bit about Aussie culture. But anyway it’s good to see. They played Mental as Anything afterward as well so there you go!”

Support quick to showcase support for Ange inside Celtic Park

Perhaps Ange didn’t quite understand the significance of “Live it Up” ringing around Celtic Park. A cheeky nod to our rivals no doubt. But even so, there was an appreciation of what Australian football has given the club in Ange and Tom.

This club has by far the greatest support in the world. When things are going well and titles are being won, there’s no better place for a player to be playing his football. Or indeed a manager to be managing a club. Ange is experiencing everything he could’ve possibly hoped for at Parkhead these days.

Granted, it’s clear the kangaroos and cork hats came across as a touch stereotypical it seems! We’ll look forward to Ange teaching us more about Australian football as the years go on.

In all seriousness, there was just something special at Celtic Park yesterday. Something you can’t really put into words and do it proper justice. Even when we mauled Rangers 3-0 back in February, there was still something about yesterday that outshone even that atmosphere.

Perhaps it was all of the emotion sweeping around the stadium. There was joy, excitement, appreciation, and even a sadness in there too given the departures of Tom and Nir.

All mixed in together it led to a special occasion for the Celtic support, and not one we’re ever likely to forget anytime soon.
