Celtic picked up an impressive away victory in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night, but emerging from the match there were more injury considerations.
Both Nir Bitton and Stephen Welsh limped out of the encounter in Hungary, with concerns that the Bhoys might be left short defensively as a result. Carl Starfelt is already nursing a problem, while Christopher Jullien isn’t expected to be ready until later in the month.
Thankfully Ange Postecoglou’s update on the situation is a positive one. Bitton only came out of the match with a cramp, while Welsh’s problem is also not thought to be serious, as reported by Radio Clyde journalist Alison Conroy.
Had both been missing for an extended period, the Celtic boss would have had to turn to the untested Liam Scales or Osaze Urhoghide for a defensive partner to Cameron Carter-Vickers.
Thankfully that doesn’t appear to be the case.
Celtic now have a match against Dundee on Sunday lunchtime, before yet another international break this season.
If nothing else though, the upcoming break from action will give those not travelling to get up to speed at Lennoxtown and close in on minutes in the first team.
Stars such as Tom Rogic, James Forrest, Mikey Johnston and Christopher Jullien should all benefit from that training time.
If we can come through the Dens Park clash unscathed and with three points, we’re well placed for a busy November and December period.
In other news, “Another level”; Celtic supporters couldn’t stop praising defender during European win.
