"Ange has backed him"; Scott McDonald hails improvement in oft-criticised Celtic star

Ange Postecoglou has been praised for the turnaround in many Celtic stars this season. From Anthony Ralston to Tom Rogic, he’s received recognition for improving many of the players who were struggling this time last year.

After good form over the last few matches, Greg Taylor is now quickly being added to many people’s lists.

I actually think Taylor has been a good player for Celtic throughout the season. He was one of the first to fully buy into Ange’s tactics in the games at the start of the season. Unfortunately, he couldn’t consolidate that bright start because of a shoulder injury.

Since coming back from that though he’s improved further and now really looks at home playing an inverted full-back role that carries serious demands.

Still, there’s no doubt he’s been regularly criticised by fans for large chunks of the last 12 months. After a stunning display against Rangers last week, everyone is finally paying attention to what he offers this team.

Former players are impressed too, including former Celtic striker Scott McDonald, who is very much enjoying watching the Ange revolution from the summer heat of Australia.

Speaking to our 67 Hail Hail YouTube channel exclusively earlier today, McDonald said of Taylor: “I think he’s stood out, he’s performed. Ange has backed him. I remember we were all saying in January that the left-back position was questionable in terms of ‘can Celtic strengthen in that area?’

“Since the break, and even before that, Taylor’s performances have been exemplary. He’s not been put out of place, he’s inverting excellently and he’s linking the play.

“The squad itself now is really showing now this strength in depth. It’s coming to the nitty-gritty, we don’t know how the bodies are going to hold up. We know the type of football Ange likes to play. The football is not my worry, it’s just the bodies. But it looks to me they have enough bodies now to cope with it.

“Celtic were heavily reliant on Kyogo in the first half of the season. To have this strength in numbers now, and the quality, you’re not sitting there frustrated about injuries.”

Everyone connected to Celtic is at pains to point out the Bhoys aren’t the finished article yet. Yes, we won the League Cup but the ambitions of this manager and squad go multitudes beyond that.

However, with the continued improvement of the players who were already here, and seemingly every Postecoglou signing offering something to the team, truly we are on the right track. That’s undeniable even for our rivals now.
