Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed Nir Bitton’s absence from the match squad today was not a tactical decision but because of a ‘slight issue’.
Bitton has made 36 appearances this season including 19 starts, becoming a firm fixture in the manager’s squads even when not in the initial eleven.
However, he missed last week’s clash against Rangers at Hampden and didn’t make the trip with Celtic to the Highlands this weekend.
“Niro Bitton’s got a bit of an issue,” Postecoglou told BBC Radio Scotland before kick-off. Later in the interview, he would classify it as a ‘slight’ issue.
However, what the nature of the problem is, whether illness or injury was not expanded upon.
It’s at least an indication that the Israeli midfielder hasn’t fallen out of the manager’s plans. If he was fit, there is little doubt he would be included in the group.
The new Champions League format & what it will mean for Celtic
Postecoglou has previously spoken highly of Bitton, telling the media in January that he’s been “outstanding” for Celtic this season.
The general health of the squad is good right now. Postecoglou is spoiled for choice when it comes to selecting his team.
The only real concern is right-back Josip Juranovic, who will miss the next couple of weeks of action at least. However, with Ralston continuing to compete well this term, we have competent back-up there.
Get better soon Niro!
