Ange Postecoglou addresses the Kyogo or Giorgos Giakoumakis Celtic derby debate
Ange Postecoglou has suggested both Kyogo Furuhashi and Giorgos Giakoumakis will play a big role for Celtic against Rangers this weekend.
One of the big debates ahead of the derby has been whether the Celtic boss will go for the Greek striker or the Japanese sensation as centre-forward on Sunday.
However, Postecoglou thinks there’s room for both players to make their mark on the Ibrox side.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “We can play them both. From my perspective, every week you look at a team and the line-up that gives you the best chance of success. It’s not always about the guys who start either.
“What’s made us stronger is that since January we’ve had contributions for all sorts of players who have stepped up. Right now, we know we’ve got both of them. Yes both of them can start but if one or the other starts, the other can come on and make an impact, that’s important.”
Everyone’s going to have a personal preference here and Postecoglou’s starting eleven will be scrutinised whoever he goes for.
For me, personally, it’s a match for Kyogo to start and Giakoumakis to come into in the second half. That was effective against Ross County and I think it can work again this weekend.
I’m expecting a lightning start to Sunday’s game and I think having the pace and movement of Kyogo could help Celtic set the tone of the match and put pressure on early.
However, I’m not going to be tearing my hair out if Giakoumakis is given the nod.
Postecoglou is keeping his cards close to his chest here for obvious reasons, so all eyes will be on Sunday’s team announcement!
