Ange Postecoglou Celtic return ‘not ruled out’ by insider journo

Wilfried Nancy’s Celtic nightmare is over.

In a bombshell announcement on Monday, Nancy – and the man who appointed him, Paul Tisdale – were confirmed to have departed Celtic.

It comes after the Frenchman lost six of his eight games in charge at Celtic Park. It was a humiliating 33 days – an almighty misstep after Martin O’Neill’s interim spell.

Will O’Neill return? It certainly feels that this is the most likely outcome, given the success of his eight games in temporary charge.

An even bigger bombshell, however, would be a return for Ange Postecoglou.

What do you think is the main reason Wilfried Nancy couldn’t buy a win as Celtic manager? 🤔

The stats are damning…

Alex Crook on Ange Postecoglou returning to Celtic

Postecoglou was sacked twice in 2025, and has been out of work since leaving Nottingham Forest.

His Forest spell was reminiscent of Nancy’s at Celtic, in honesty – a failed transition into a totally new playing style which had to be called off early.

Could a sensational return be on? In the eyes of talkSPORT expert Alex Crook, it’s not one which can be ruled out.

Host Andy Goldstein joked that Ruben Amorim could be the man to replace Nancy, but this was rebuffed by Crook.

He said: “They wear the same kit colours, don’t they, as Sporting Lisbon! So there is a connection there…

“I don’t see Ruben Amorim as the next Celtic manager. I wonder if our own, Martin O’Neill has already had the call, maybe to go back and steady the ship until the end of the season.

“But I wouldn’t rule out Ange Postecoglou, and that would certainly be an appointment that would go down very positively with the fans.

“I don’t want to slate the MLS, but who would’ve thought that a club like Celtic hiring the Columbus Crew manager would end so quickly in disaster.

“Nobody saw that coming, did they(?)”

Big Ange would doubtless get a hero’s welcome if he were to go for a second spell at Paradise.

What message would you send Wilfried Nancy as Celtic sack the manager?

Other candidates to replace Wilfried Nancy at Celtic

Jens Askou of Motherwell has been touted as a possible Celtic manager, given his success so far at Fir Park.

Revisiting previous candidates, Kjetil Knutsen is a name that stands out, given his incredible achievements at Bodo/Glimt.

Kieran McKenna’s name had previously been touted, but there are doubts over whether he could be tempted away from his lucrative long-term deal at Portman Road.

Craig Bellamy and Efrain Juarez were both also of previous interest to Celtic.
