Ange Postecoglou is happy with the attitude and application of Odsonne Edouard but has confirmed Celtic are making contingencies for his exit.

Edouard has been heavily linked with a move to England for over a year now, yet still hasn’t made the big-money move everyone is expecting.

His former teammate Kristoffer Ajer managed to engineer a swift exit this summer, to Brentford, and attention is now turning to Edouard’s intentions.

If the Frenchman is eager to move away, it’s not impacting his training, says Postecoglou.

However, he has also confirmed contingencies have had to be put in place, as you’d expect.

Speaking to Sky Sports today, the manager said when asked about Edouard’s future: “That sort of thing I can’t control. I have had a chat with Odsonne.

“To me what’s more important is that Odsonne is training very well and presenting himself in games well, so while he’s here I’m treating him as a Celtic player.

“If that changes in the near future then we’re making contingency plans for that.

“I’m not going to waste too much time convincing people to stay or worrying about what happens in the future because there’s just too much to do on what I need to influence right now.”

This Edouard stance is exactly what’s needed at Celtic

This is clearly just sensible stuff from the manager and the club. Edouard was a key player last season and in years gone by. His exit will leave a massive hole in the squad even if he’s not playing quite at his peak.

We need to be ready to strike in the transfer market quickly and efficiently if he leaves, much like the decision to bring in Carl Starfelt directly after Kristoffer Ajer.

This is how Celtic needs to function this summer if we’re to have any chance of success across the coming season.

At the very least it feels like Postecoglou knows that and direct, honest talk like this clues in the support on what’s going on behind the scenes.

In other news, Celtic supporters are loving how Ange Postecoglou is handling the Scottish media.
